NEXT MEETING:  NOV. 6, 2024 - 6:30pm

Our Guild meets in the Art Studio room in the basement.  Please remember to arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. TAF building doors should be open at this time because the "after-school children's art class" is scheduled from 5:30 - 6:30.  If the doors are locked at 6:30, we will have someone keeping an eye on them.
"Don't eat me!"

Agenda Item #1.  FEAST THANK YOU'S
First and foremost -- thank you to everyone who helped this year in the Tippewa Spinners booth at the Feast:  Lois Beasley, Glynis Boone, Chloe Caldwell, Barb Criswell, Diana Hallenbeck, Sarah Merryman, Beth Maxwell, Becky Parkinson, Ginny Parkinson, Sonja Robson, Ella Stroh, Elise Taylor, and Lori Thomas.

Special thank you to Marilyn Wolber for continuing to help dress several of us (even though she was unable to attend the Feast herself)!

And very, very special thank you to Becky Parkinson and her family for setting up and sharing their Feast-appropriate tent.  It is a LOT of work to set up and take down.  It provided a very welcome haven to rest and eat, a place to change clothes, and a place to stash belongings including wheels overnight.  It is a BIG DEAL to have an area like that for the group.  THANK YOU!!!  In addition, a huge thank you to Becky for bringing and demonstrating on her very large walking wheel.

Typically, the Tippecanoe County Historic Association (TCHA) holds a Feast Volunteer "thank you" gathering, typically early in December.  But I have not yet seen that announcement.

Agenda Item #2 -- Dues are Due.  Yes, it's that time of year again where we start to collect dues for the following calendar year.  Dues will remain at $10 for 2025.

Agenda item #3 -- December Christmas Party.
Yes!  We still want to have our Christmas party and 4 oz fiber exchange.  Please bring snacks and / or drinks.  If you wish to participate in the fiber exchange, it must be 4 oz of ready-to-spin fiber.  (I.e., NO raw wool, NO washed-but-not-prepared-for-spinning fiber, NO yarn, NO "white elephants").  Be sure to label what your gift is and from whom.  Question:  How do we want to do the exchange this year?
  1. As we have exchanged the last couple of years: a "toss around" with look-alike bags?  I.e., Place your gift in a plastic shopping bag. I will bring a bunch of Wal-Mart bags to double-bag all of the gifts and make them look the same before the "exchange" happens.

    OR

  2. Wrap gifts "nicely" like a present.  Presents go in middle in a pile.  We draw names.  When your name is drawn, you can pick from the pile OR take an already-chosen gift out of someone else's hands.  If your already-chosen gift gets lifted from you, you choose another one out of the pile.  Then, the next name is drawn, and so on, until all gifts are handed out to those who are participating.

Let me know what the group decides!!!  (And, obviously, only those who bring a gift to exchange can pull a gift from the exchange with either gift exchange method.)
Agenda item #4 -- RH Lindsay Order.
Is there any interest in sending in a group RH Lindsay order at the end of this year?  I am -- or anyone else who would like to volunteer -- willing to do that.  Remember:  it takes a minimum number of pounds ordered to make it worth our while in terms of shipping costs.  The more pounds that get ordered, the more the shipping cost per pound will average down across the order.  (Typical orders will average an additional $1 to $2 per pound for shipping, added to the cost of the fiber.)

Reminder / for those new to the group: this is an inexpensive way to get already-processed fibers to learn with or to use for large projects, sometimes for less than $1/oz (but with a 1 lb minimum order).  Or, there are some "luxury" fibers at an amazing price (e.g., silk, camel, low-micron Merino).  For advice, talk to other members who have previously ordered and/or or don't hesitate to ask me.  Here is the link to RH Lindsay products page:  R.H. Lindsay (rhlindsaywool.com)

If you are interested in doing a group order, we can pull that order together in December.

Agenda Item #5 -- Ideas for 2025 Guild Topics
Now is the time to suggest some topics we'd like to do during 2025.  Some ideas I've had include:
  • Yes, yes, I still need to develop an Acid-Dye Workshop.  Although when I think of this, I think it needs to be a day-long workshop, not one we can do during a guild meeting.  (I'll get there eventually!)
  • Spindles -- support spindles, Navajo spindles, other
  • Spinning cotton
  • Continuing Breed studies using sheep raised by guild members, i.e., Gotland, CVM, Teeswater, Leicester Longwool, other (?)
  • Topics from the on-line Ply Spinning Guild (e.g., spinning wheel parts & mechanics; worsted vs. woolen; spindles; ...)
  • Exploring "other" fibers, e.g., seacell, rose, banana, etc.
  • Please add your own ideas and we can discuss at the December meeting!!!

Agenda Item #6 -- Show & Tell (last, but not least!).  Please share any show and tells  -- (purchased) fibers, yarns you've spun, finished items you've made, etc. etc. !!!

Agenda Item #7 -- Open Spin.  For the remainder of the meeting, enjoy!
