FIELD TRIP!!! 
 Wabash Woollen Works - Natural Dye Class  

  • Lisa Gilman (owner)
  • Saturday, August 20th.
  • Must arrive a bit early before 10 a.m. start time 
  • Cost: $40 per person
  • WORKSHOP ATTENDEES PLEASE NOTE: Payment is due at THIS MEETING. Lisa Gilman has asked that payments be collected up front, so as not to waste time the day of the class, as that will be a very busy day.  You can provide cash, or write a check to Wabash Woollen Works.
  • 8 to 10 dye vats
  • each participant will get 2 dyed 55-yard skeins.  Additional skeins $5 each.  Skeins are Merino or Merino/alpaca or other good quality fiber(s).
  • will include tour of mill (not running) and/or overview/use of other activity like felting equipment
  • Bring sack lunch & beverages

Tippecanoe County Fair -- Thank you!!!
  • Thank you to Vilija D., Amanda B., Liam B., Mark W., Dagmar F/, Sonja R., Dana McD. Shelly T., and Diana H. for demonstrating spinning at the Tippecanoe County Fair. Very special THANK YOU to Vilija for initial set-up, and for bringing some wonderful items (wool locks, mill-prepared pre-dyed fiber, handspun yarns, and knitted, crocheted, and woven items) to show just what spinners do with fiber! 
  • Also a special THANK YOU to Mark W. for demonstrating at every single shift, all four days!
  • Diana H. provided laminated pictures of fiber animals commonly found at county fairs with example skeins and knitted swatches attached for people to touch.  Also provided was a pair of knitted fingerless gloves for curious folks to try on.

    • A lesson plan for making a cabled yarn will be postponed to another date.
  • We can help each other 1 on 1 with any random questions from a member may have about spinning or plying on their wheels.
  • We can help new members with continued learning on drop spindles.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY FAIR TIME 

July 15 - 23


Our Guild will be at the County Fair demonstrating spinning Monday, July 18,  through Thursday, July 21. We will be set up from 2 PM thru 8 PM each of those days. 

Come and join in or just visit and watch how we change sheep's wool [and a few other critters] into yarn. Then go visit the animals, vendors, carnival, exhibits, and, of course, "Fair Food."

We will be dividing up the fleeces from Prophetstown State Park between interested members (2022 dues paid) of Tippewa Spinners

To participate, you need:to be a paid member of Tippewa Spinners. Bring plastic bag(s) to take raw fleece home

    • Target dates:
      • first choice  Saturday, August 24th
      • 2nd choice: Saturday, Sep 3rd (Labor Day weekend)
      • 3rd choice:  Saturday, Sep 24th

    • Cost: $35-$40 per person
      • Minimum number of 8, maximum number of 16
      • 8 to 10 dye vats
      • pick some dyestuffs from her gardens, like hibiscus flowers
      • NOW through early Sep is the time to get flowers out of her gardens
      • each participant will get 2 dyed 55-yard skeins.  Additional skeins $5 each.  Skeins are Merino or Merino/alpaca or other good quality fiber(s).
      • will include tour of mill (not running) and/or overview/use of other activity like felting equipment
      • Bring sack lunch & beverages
      • 10 a.m.'til 3 or 4 p.m.
  • Tour of mill while running -- Sign-up Sheet
    • cost: $10-$12 per person for ~10-15 people
    • Bring sack lunch & beverages

      • Overlap items with dye class, except mill not running during dye class

  • Need a follow-up meeting for Focus on Blending -- What day to meet, early in month?  Focus on blending other fibers with wool.  Attendees need to bring their washed and flicked wool from last meeting!
  • Need to re-start with wool washing / flicking / handcarding?  (New members interested?)
